Email marketing is a fundamental part of digital marketing. It plays an important role as it is one of the most direct ways in order to reach prospective customers and turn them into paying and loyal ones.
How is this possible?
First of all one should consider the amount of people that use email services on a daily basis. Worldwide, this number was of around 3.9 billion of users in 2019, and it is expected to be growing. In fact, for 2021 the forecast is expected to reach 4.1 billions of users.
Redimensioning to a smaller scale, between 2017 and 2019 in Europe (on 28 selected countries) the average of email users was 93%, and as the global trend is growing, a growth in the European segment can be expected.
This data is promising, as email marketers know for sure their pool is big and that users are active.
Another positive aspect about email marketing is the return on investment (ROI) that it carries. According to DMA, in their report published in 2019,the ROI would be 42£ for every pound spent.
GDPR for get high quality:
This might also be a consequence of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as they increased the quality of the users. On one hand, this regulation reduced the quantity of email addresses present in the mailing lists of marketers by informing users on how their data are stored and used, but on the other, it gave businesses high quality potential leads, as who decided to keep receiving emails, was truly and consciously interested.
Email Marketing provides value.
Email marketing communicates and provides value to the audience. Many different types of emails can be sent to customers, one can inform the customers about new things happening in the business, but also send special offers, coupons, discounts targeting specifically a segment that is going to appreciate it.
Another aspect, that may be underestimated is the fact that email lists are owned by business, while on the contrary, on social media, even if the followers are following your profile, they are still property of the platform, and if they had to disappear, how many clients would one lose?
